Raven on the Road: May 2010 Update!
Another two months have flown by and Raven is still on the road. Red Sky spent March and April in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and British Columbia, visiting schools and venues including Kenyano College in Fort McMurray, Esplanade Theatre in Medicine Hat, Moose Jaw Cultural Centre in Moose Jaw, Festival Place in Sherwood Park, Port Theatre in Nanaimo, Max Cameron Theatre in Powell River, and Raven’s Cry Theatre in Sechelt.
We had the opportunity to connect beyond performances in the communities of Fort McMurray, Medicine Hat, Sherwood Park, and Scarborough, working with youth and adults in a variety of workshop settings. With backstage tours and group activities, the Raven cast brought the world of the actor backstage to life, teaching the basics of dance, movement, voice, and improv. Working with young people is always a rewarding experience; in one way, we are there to teach, but learn so many things along the way.

On the road, it’s easy to get caught up in the travels of the company, and in the show itself – it requires something special to make us stop! We’ve been fortunate to have many of these moments on the road. Communities have been more than generous to Red Sky. In Medicine Hat, we stopped for a visit at the World’s Tallest Tipi;
and near Powell River, BC, we were invited to a dinner on the Tla’amin reserve. Then there are moments where time just stands still, no matter how busy we are. Ferrying down the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia, we were all momentarily speechless; to see such natural beauty, just the mountains and the ocean seemed to exist. The power of Nature’s beauty puts everything into perspective.
